Social Studies

Social Studies 5-8 grade

The fifth and sixth grade social studies curriculum examines the geography and cultures of the world outside North America, in particular, Africa. In seventh grade, a regional study approach is used for the study of the geography and history of North America. The eighth grade curriculum surveys American history through the nineteenth century. The 5-8 curriculums will include the Social Studies Alive! And History Alive! Core programs from the Teacher’s Curriculum Institute, used in the African-centered KIPP schools across the country.

Social Studies 9-12 grade

Required full year courses in the social studies include:

Grade 9: African Cultures 

 Grade 10: The Cultures of the Western World

 Grade 11: United States History from the Beginning of the Twentieth Century to the Present

Grade 12: Government and Economics

Materials will include supplemental programs in the United States and World history provided by the Teachers’ Curriculum Institute Advanced Placement options will be available as needed either as tutorials or as full classes.
